1.) What is informational text?
Informational text is telling the reader something true or non fiction.

3.) What are text features?
Text features are pictures or diagrams or evan a map some times with captions. To inform the reader about the book, to give an idea of what's happening in the book.
4.) Skim through "Phineas Gage" and identify the text features reviewed in class and included in this informational text. Use the listed features to help you identify them in the text. Once you have identified the features in the text note the page number. In addition, provide an explanation/purpose of the feature and how it helps the reader. NOTE: Not all features reviewed in class are included in "Phineas Gage." In this case, define the purpose of the feature, no page numbers are necessary.

- Guide Words (p.10): Anything that stands out or points to a specific word.
Title Page (p. 1): Shows the title of the book, the author, the publisher, and most of the time a picture. - Table of Contents pg 4- where to find specific items or pages
- Index pg 143- 162 where to find un known words and which pg there on
- Glossary (Page 192 - 202) tells you the definition of unknown words
- Heading (Page 6, 60, 111, 164) tells what the capter is mostly about, tells the main idea
- Subheading (N/A) tells you the main idea of a paragraph
- Keywords (N/A) helps you understand the paragraph better
- Photographs/Illustrations - Page 16-17, etc. - Helps the reader understand something by looking at it from the inside. Gives the reader an image to support the information provided in the text.
~Captions (p.21): Tells you what is happening in the photograph or illustration.
~Diagrams (p.37): Explains what ever is in the picture is.
~Labels (p.38): Tell you what something on the picture is.'
~Textbox (p. 33): Brief definition of something.
~Map (NA): Shows where different items are.
~Special Print (p.41): Important words that are usually in italics, bold, highlighted, etc.
